Midyear-Checkin-on-Your-Mobility-Goals

Mid-year Check-in on Your Mobility Goals

As we find ourselves halfway through the year, much like the personal goals we set for ourselves, it's an opportune moment to take stock of how well your organization is navigating its mobility initiatives so far this year. Just like a health check-up keeps us on track personally, evaluating your mobility program's progress ensures you’re keeping aligned with strategic objectives and making meaningful strides forward throughout the year.

Below are five key areas and questions to explore. Evaluating these questions can provide a comprehensive view of your mobility program’s health mid-year, and become a guide to identify successes, challenges, and even areas for improvement as you move forward though the second half of the year. Let us have a look!

Partnering with your Relocation Management Company (RMC)

Have you met with your RMC since the beginning of the year? How often do you meet with them?
At a minimum, Cornerstone recommends meeting quarterly to touch base on the health and performance of your mobility program. More extensive reviews, such as year-end, are important for taking a deep dive into the health of your program, discussing trends, industry developments, concerns, KPIs, and more.

Reporting

Are you receiving regular reporting?
How often are you receiving reporting? Receiving reporting in an established cadence is important for your relocation program, and necessary to assess whether the structure of your program achieves the specific targets set for broader business objectives. It is also critical to explore whether the implementation of any new policies or technologies was successful. Do your reports indicate that employees are adopting and utilizing new elements or changes effectively?

Measuring Program Success

Have you started looking at your program data? Evaluate the metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) established to gauge the success of your mobility program. Are these metrics providing meaningful insights into the performance of your program? Do you need to make any adjustments to reduce or manage exceptions? By asking these questions and conducting a mid-year review with your RMC, you can ensure your mobility program remains robust, competitive, adaptable, and aligned with other overarching business goals.

Employee Feedback

What kinds of satisfaction and process improvement systems are in use to ensure program success?
Soliciting and gauging employee feedback on satisfaction levels with current mobility services, as well as their overall experience, is an important element of your program. Is your RMC surveying your employees? How often and at what points in their relocation? What are general sentiments on their experience and the services made available through your policies? Are there any specific areas that need to change?

Cornerstone’s philosophy is to gather and assess feedback on an ongoing basis so that ideas can be considered ongoing, as needed. If there are challenges, reflect on the obstacles faced during the first half of the year. Why wait till the end of the year to pivot or enhance your employees’ experience, find cost reduction opportunities, or even find eco-friendly operational initiatives? Here are a few questions to investigate potential issues or escalations:

  • What does your employee feedback tell you? Are your employees facing logistical challenges or something broader related to their relocation?
  • Are unforeseen external factors affecting progress against your mobility or talent management goals?

Compliance & Security

How are you ensuring compliance and security within your mobility strategy?
Compliance with local, national, and international laws and regulations is crucial for any company with a relocation program. Best practices and security protocols are constantly evolving. Mid-year is a great time to revisit the measures that you currently have in place with your RMC to safeguard data and ensure compliance with regulations such as General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). Are there any changes to best practices that are required to support ongoing record-keeping, documentation, or other areas of compliance?

Mid-Year is the Perfect Time to Reflect on your Program

Regularly checking your progress towards your mobility goals is essential for maintaining program momentum and staying aligned with your organization's strategic objectives and talent management strategy. It allows you to not only celebrate achievements, but step in and course-correct if necessary, ensuring that your efforts are contributing effectively to overall business success. Partnering with your RMC to complete a mid-year review enables you to take a deeper look at feedback, identify gaps, or potential roadblocks to reaching your goals and provides you with a strategic direction to proactively address them in coming months.
